Empowering Communities
Success Story
TransformaWell partnered with the University of Illinois in the summer of 2023 and their Youth Wellness Program to provide health and wellness education for minority youth training to be Community Health Workers at Northeastern University's Center for Inner City Studies, located in the Bronzeville community on Chicago's near south side.

Educating
Our founder Dr. Tramayne Butler DeLong, PhD worked with youth age 16-24 during intensive Community Health Workers trainings and helped to develop a dynamic curriculum alongside project director Dr. Ruby Mendenhall, PhD of the University of Illinois. Community Health Workers can positively affect vulnerable communities by acting as liaisons between medical and social services and the community and providing preventative care. They will be peer health educators that can provide culturally appropriate health education and information, give guidance on health behaviors, advocate for individual and community health needs, and be agents of change on the frontlines to reduce health disparities in underserved communities.
Empowering
TransformaWell provided curricular materials, outreach and on the ground training to teach the youth strategies that they can use in their communities to promote better health and combat the rise of chronic disease that according to the CDC has disproportionately affected minority communities. State Senator Mattie Hunter, who has championed Community Health Worker legislation, was among our distinguished contributors to the program.
Dr. Tramayne Butler DeLong notes, "We were excited to participate in this Youth Wellness Project this summer led by the University of Illinois to help students create wellness tools focused on healthy eating as well as healthy movement."
